March's Look We Love

As we've been scouring the vast array of social media outlets looking for inspiration for our brides, we've noticed a fun new style that we're loving. We'll call it Southwestern Cool. And since we are in Texas there's a good possibility we'll eventually get to incorporate some of these beauties (crossing our fingers). We also love it though because it reminds us of our Southern California home. Can't you just image this at a gorgeous Palm Desert wedding? The geometric shapes and patterns, the bright colors, the florals, the attire, romantic teepees, watercolor everything, feathers and bows and aarows. So much pretty we almost can't handle it.

Paper Rosette Backdrop

Last weekend we participated in the Fort Worth Bridal Show and had a BLAST meeting all of the beautiful Fort Worth brides-to-be! Getting ready for the show was no small feat. We were going to go big for our first show! Which led us to creating this beauty of a handmade backdrop.

Lots of hours, lots of paper cuts but totally worth it. So we thought we would share our process so you can make some pretty fans to add a little punch to your next party or event. All you need for the fans is cardstock or construction paper, scissors and a glue gun!

Step 1) Fold 4 sheets of paper hot dog wise (that reference will always be good).

 

Step 2) Fold each fan in half and hot glue the edges together.

 

 



Step 3) Hot glue all 4 folded fans together to form your wheel.



Step 4) Use your scissors to cut the edges of some of the fans to get a different shape. Just cut a half circle to get a scalloped edge!

Step 5) Now it's just about how you want to hang your backdrop. For the show we couldn't hang anything on the existing pipe and drape so we made a freestanding backdrop out of PVC pipes and used woodblocks for the base. It was fairly simple and cheap to make and we just punched small holes in the fans and threaded them with string that we hung from the top pipe at varying lengths. You can also hot glue them to a foamboard or if you want a more permanent display you can put small nails in your wall and stick the middle of the fan through the nail.

Don't be afraid to mix your fans up with different colored or patterned paper. It adds a fun pop to the backdrop! So that's all there is to it! Happy crafting and happy Friday!

Love is in the air!

It's Valentine's Day! A day all about l-o-v-e. We got to help the students at TCU celebrate last night with this sweet dessert display. Styling, graphic work and all desserts by yours truly. I had so much fun putting this together for them and hope everyone enjoyed the yummy treats!

February Look We Love

Ah February, the month of love! And we're pretty dang in love with the wedding trends we've noticed thus far in 2014. Instead of sharing just one for February, we wanted to go over a few that have caught our eye over the past month. Prepare yourselves because this is going to be a feast for the eyes!

Colored Vintage Glassware
After spotting this in countless weddings and shoots this has become my newest personal obsession. As of late, I can be found scouring local antique stores expanding BDE's collection. There are so many fun colors, shapes and patterns to mix and match. If you want to incorporate this into your bridal shower or rehearsal dinner, BDE can help you out. And if you're looking for colored glassware for your wedding or a whole lot of inspiration, the mecca is Casa De Perrin, a rental company based out of California (but ships!). Isn't this ombre glassware on the bar amazing!

Backdrops
Backdrops, whether they be for the ceremony or reception, can make a huge impact. That's why architectural elements are always something that we like to incorporate into our designs, despite the amount of time it usually means my husband and I spend at Home Depot. It's always worth it to add a creative punch and really make the whole scene pop.

Bold Colors
2013 was the year of soft romantic blush and gold weddings. 2014 is starting with a bang! There are bright colors to be found in every real wedding and styled shoot now and we love it! Being unafraid of color opens so many design doors.

Ribbons
Has anyone else noticed this? If I could go back in time I would add ribbon to everything in my own wedding. Invitation, chairs, bouquets, tables, bars... the possibilities are endless and it makes for a sweet touch.

Mix & Match Seating
Did you watch Sean + Catherine's wedding? If so, you probably noticed this trend was on display in full force. Whether it's ceremony or reception seating, mixing and matching chairs that are different shapes, colors or materials will add instant visual interest and is a super fun and quirky detail.
